Legal Protection Of Wilderness In South Africa

WHEREAS,

National wilderness legislation is presently inadequate.

There is an urgent need to provide secure legal protection for state, private & commercial land.

THEREFORE, the 7th World Wilderness Congress

RESOLVES, that

The Department of Environmental Affairs & Tourism implement national legislation to ensure that South African wilderness is protected adequately at national & provincial levels.

Provision for wilderness on private and communal land should be included in such legislation.
