Resolution #16:

Title:
Management and Integrity Of Wilderness Areas
Proposed by: C.J. Forrest
Seconded by:
Alec Marr

WHEREAS,

The physical and conceptual integrity of wilderness is irrevocably linked to the efficiency and motivation of those responsible for its management and protection.

Wilderness areas often require human input in terms of public involvement, education and management if they are to retain integrity as a specially protected area.

These experts - "rangers," managers, etc - need to be adequately trained, equipped, paid, motivated and led if they are to perform their duties properly

THEREFORE, the 7th World Wilderness Congress

RESOLVES, that

Government agencies and other organizations - public or private - that propose or proclaim wilderness areas need to include in their planning the training and support of those people - i.e managers, rangers, and others - who will protect and manage the areas and help involve the local communities.
