WHEREAS,

The Russian Federation possesses an incomparable wealth of wilderness that is under current threat from development, corruption, and neglect; and whereas the Russian economic crisis has deprived the 6^th World Wilderness Congress of the benefits of participation of Russian wilderness managers, researchers, and scholars;

The 6^th World Wilderness Congress:

Wishes to express its deep sadness at the absence of Russian participation in the Congress and exhorts the public and private leadership of the Russian Federation to support fully wilderness conservation in Russia, including the research essential to wise management of its precious wilderness resource.
