WHEREAS,
Strong support for the Trans-frontier or peace park concept has been
registered at this Congress; and
WHEREAS,
Rotary International was the initiator of the peace park concept, some
sixty-five years ago, in bringing Canada and the United States of America together to
establish the Waterton-Glacier Peace Park;
The 6th
World Wilderness Congress hereby resolves that:
- Urge Rotary International to use its influence and its resources to facilitate
Trans-frontier initiatives globally, currently underway, that have received the support of
this Congress, such as the India-Pakistani Kashmir Peace Park; the Emerald Triangle Peace
Park between Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar; and the Dakensberg-Maloti Peace Park
between Lesotho and South Africa.
